ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Suzanne lives in inner-city Sydney. She has five adult children and believes the family and long term friends are life’s true riches. After a fourteen-year career in Community Research and Development, Suzanne moved into the private sector and established Fleming and Associates; a Newcastle based management consultancy. Fleming and Associates, won a highly prestigious contract with the mining giant, BHP Billiton, to design and deliver a Change Management program that was an essential component of the closure of the Newcastle Steelworks. The program was delivered to all staffing tiers, from senior management to front-line workers, before, during and after the closure. The Change Management program examined the psychological impact of imposed change, from the perspective of retrenched and retained workers, as well as from that of the individuals who were responsible for delivering the termination messages to the employees; many of whom were long-serving workers. The program designed by Suzanne, was highly praised by the global management company, McKinsey & Company. In addition to her professional practice, Suzanne was, for over two decades, a part-time college and university teacher. Her specialist teaching areas were, business startup strategies, business management, information technology, human resources management and creative writing. Suzanne worked on special assignments in London and Vietnam. She is a qualified eLearning facilitator and still delivers online creative writing courses. As a Senior Education Officer with TAFE NSW, specializing in Curriculum Development, Suzanne was appointed to the position of State Manager for the TAFE WORKCOVER RETRAINING PROECT. This highly innovative and successful program aimed to help improve employment opportunities for injured workers. Suzanne held this position for three years. By changing subject-based, courses into modular programs, Suzanne, and her team, made ground-breaking modifications to course development. The new format allowed participants to fast-track new knowledge and skills. The new skillsets provided pathways for injured workers to move into appropriate, post-injury, employment positions. Modular programs later became the foundation for TAFE mainstream courses. The things Suzanne most enjoys are her family, her work, writing, reading, gardening, preparing small dinner parties for special friends, and spending time with interesting people. Suzanne was mentored by Denis Butler the highly respected Australian journalist. Denis was the recipient of the inaugural Graham Perkin, Australian Journalist of the Year Award. Denis was Suzanne's supervisor when she was a Literary Critic for the Newcastle Herald newspaper. He taught her to trust her writing ability, and enthusiastically encouraged her to pursue a career as a novelist. Her message to other writers: ‘Never give up. Keep writing. It’s the path to self-knowledge and a great way to learn about other people. Take rejection well and be your own harshest critic. Examine every piece you write and know you can always do better. There is no such thing as perfection, but there is always room for improvement.’ CORPORATE TRAINING PROGRAMS
